Canfor's Radium operation was originally built in the early 1950's by the Wilder Brothers Lumber Company. In 1964 Revelstoke Sawmills bought the mill and then the mill was later sold to Slocan Forest Products in 1985. Canfor purchased SFP in 2003. Canfor's Radium operation underwent a refit to the operation following a three-year shutdown as a result of the economic meltdown in 2008-09. Canfor has invested $50 million into the operation that hopes to provide long-term job stability to our members there. The plant employs 155 USW members.
